Meet Nala, our Pet of the Week from the Vanderburgh Humane Society.

Nala's Story

Nala is a 2-year-old terrier mix up for adoption at the VHS. She loves being with people, and as you can see from the video above, her favorite thing to do is play fetch. The VHS says she walks well on a leash but isn't always aware of her own strength, so don't be surprised if she ends up walking you every once in a while. The ideal family situation for Nola would be a home with adults or big kids who also enjoy tug of war and play wrestling.

Her adoption fee is $150 which covers the cost of her spay, microchip, and up-to-date vaccinations. All of which would be way more expensive if you paid for them individually.

If you're interested in Nola or any of the other animals up for adoption at the Vanderburgh Humane Society, get a jump on the adoption process by filling out some of the paperwork in advance on the VHS website.

To prepare yourself for a potential incident, always keep your vet's phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.

Even with all of these resources, however, the best cure for food poisoning is preventing it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
