This Charming Destination Was Named the Best Must-Visit Small Town in Indiana
This charming Indiana town has earned its spot as one of America's best 'must visit' small towns for several reasons.
Small towns are really a hot topic lately. When it comes to Indiana, we have no shortage of them. Everyone has small-town pride nowadays. As someone who is from a small town in Indiana, I am proud of where I come from. Boonville, Indiana is a great place to raise a family and to call home. I don't care what anyone says. Recently we have covered many of these small towns in articles such as the worst small towns in Indiana, an Indiana small town that makes you feel like you are in a Hallmark movie, the best must-visit small town in Indiana, and HGTV naming this Indiana town as the most charming in the state.
The travel website Thrillist recently released a list of the Best Small Towns to Visit across the country. When it comes to the town chosen for Indiana, it could be a small town that you're familiar with, one that you've never heard of before, or one that you completely agree or disagree with. I'll let you be the judge of that part.
The Best Must-Visit Small Town in Indiana
According to Thrillist, the best must-visit small town in Indiana is Nashville. Here's what they had to say:
It’s the art, not the music, that defines Indiana’s Nashville. This tiny town near Bloomington was home to American impressionist painter T.C. Steele, who settled here in 1907. His home is a fascinating walk through his life, art studio, and wife’s well-kept garden. Be sure to visit the Brown County Art Gallery, the original artist collective where independent artists still work and sell Hoosier-made paintings (albeit for a hefty price). If you’re looking for a thrill, stay outside of town at the somewhat creepy Story Inn. One of the rooms is supposedly haunted by a ghost known as the Blue Lady. It’s also a fine place to have a beer—the bar dates back to Prohibition, and the inn sits adjacent to some of the best hiking in Brown County State Park. —Tim Ebner, food and travel writer
I have been to Nashville, Indiana a few times, and for a small town, there really is a lot to see and do there. From the delicious food, numerous shops, and everything in between, there is something there for everyone in the family to enjoy. Plus it's not far from Brown County State Park, which is perfect for camping and more outdoor fun.
Oh, and if you are looking for great things to see and do in the Fall, Nashville and Brown County is the place to visit. It's absolutely beautiful that time of year. Brown County has been nicknamed the “Little Smokies” because of the area’s resemblance to the Great Smoky Mountains. There, you'll find nearly 16,000 acres of rugged hills, ridges, and fog-shrouded ravines.
If you have never visited Nashville, Indiana, you need to add it to your bucket list no matter what time of year. For those who are looking into doing some traveling this year, you might want to also check out some of the other best small towns in America. You can view those by clicking here.
