3 Indiana Spots Among Best Haunted Destinations in U.S. for 2026

Once again, Indiana has three haunted locations that are in the running to be named the best haunted destination in America.

My wife likes to call this time of year "Summerween." Halloween season is almost upon us, but it's still summer. That being said, we are already hearing about pumpkin spice, trick-or-treating, scary movies, and haunted houses. When it comes to haunted houses specifically, there's no lack of haunted houses here in Indiana. In fact, there are so many that you might not have been to the one with the best scares. Of course, these haunted houses aren't actually haunted. As you know, they are full of actors dressed up with the intent to scare you. If you really want to get scared, you might want to visit an actual haunted house with unexplainable noises, voices, and more paranormal activity.

Now, there are a lot of haunted places throughout the state. Recently, we've discovered the most haunted house in Indiana, the most haunted restaurant in Indiana, the creepiest haunted library in Indiana, and the urban legend of a haunted cemetery found in Indiana. As it turns out, there are three haunted locations that are up for USA Today's Reader's Choice Award for Best Haunted Destination in America in 2026. Let's take a look at them.

Three Indiana Locations Among the Most Haunted in America

USA Today recently released the nominees for the Best Haunted Destination in America. Out of all the options throughout the country, three Indiana haunted locations have made the cut. Perhaps you have heard of them, or maybe you're like me and just finding out about them. Either way, they sound pretty creepy!

Randolph County Asylum

Located in Winchester, Indiana, you will find the Randolph County Asylum. The asylum has hosted TV Shows like Paranormal Lockdown, Destination Fear, and Kindred Spirits, and has served as a location for several movies. Here's what USA Today said:

Book a mini ghost hunt or private overnight investigation of the historic and haunted Randolph County Asylum. The building's architecture is remarkably stunning but be careful where you tread as you traverse the rest of the grounds, as there are at least 50 unmarked graves located on the property. The rooms, cells, and darkened hallways come alive at night — visitors have reported seeing faces in mirrors, young and old apparitions, and doors slamming shut on their own.

Indiana State Sanatorium

The Indiana State Sanatorium is located in Rockville, Indiana, and it is equally as creepy! According to USA Today:

This massive Indiana sanatorium was once the state’s main tuberculosis hospital in the first half of the 1900s and sprawls across 200 acres of land with over 120,000 square feet of buildings to explore. This massive space is now a hotspot of paranormal activity, open for self-guided and guided day tours as well as flashlight tours and public and private investigations led by experienced investigators.

The Roads Hotel

The Roads Hotel is located in Atlanta, Indiana, and it has quite the haunted history! According to USA Today:

The Roads Hotel, built in the late 1800s, has been featured on a variety of paranormal investigation shows and is known around Atlanta, Indiana, as a center of ghostly activity. If you'd like to explore the building and potentially experience the unexplained phenomena, attend a public investigation with a small group or schedule a private exploration. Visitors have reported disembodied voices, footsteps, and flickering lights.
