There has been a lot of talk lately about grocery stores, but which store do customers say is the absolute best?

I don't know about you, but one of my least favorite things to do as an adult is to go grocery shopping. It costs so much to get so little nowadays. I'm sure you'll agree that when you go to the checkout to purchase your groceries, you are always shocked by the fact that you spent a whole lot of money even though your cart isn't even half full. Oh, and don't even get me started on the price of groceries in a full cart. Now, we all have to worry about how much we will spend on a dozen eggs on top of everything else we need from the store.

Over the past few months, we've talked about grocery stores in Indiana a lot. Some of the topics have included the cheapest grocery stores, the most overpriced grocery stores, and the worst grocery stores with locations in the Hoosier State. Let's continue that trend with the latest study about grocery stores with locations here in Indiana.

Grocery Store Consumer Satisfaction Survey

The American Customer Service Satisfaction Index has been an industry standard since 1994. For 30 years, they have surveyed buyers and measured the top 19 grocery stores in America, plus they also include smaller chains. There are several categories involved in their consumer satisfaction rankings that include:

  • Convenience of store hours
  • Ease of pickup process
  • Accuracy of order fulfillment for pickup
  • Convenience of store location
  • Quality of mobile app
  • Ability to provide brand names
  • Quality and freshness of meat and produce
  • Reliability of mobile app
  • Website satisfaction
  • Layout and cleanliness of the store
  • Speed of order readiness for pickup
  • Variety and selection of merchandise
  • Abiliablity of merchandise
  • Courtesy and helpfulness of the staff
  • Quality of pharmacy services
  • Frequency of sales and promotions
  • Call center satisfaction
  • Speed of checkout process

That's a lot to process, I know, but all of those factors come into play when it comes to consumer satisfaction at the grocery store. Last year's rankings had Costco as the top grocery store, but 2025's report shows a new leader.

Grocery Store Voted #1 by Customers Has Four Locations in Indiana

This year, the American Customer Service Satisfaction Index actually showed a tie for the number one grocery store in America. One of those stores was Publix, which is a regional chain in southern states. While Publix doesn't have any locations in Indiana, the other grocery store tied for number one does. That happens to be none other than Trader Joe's.
