The New Cheapest Grocery Store in Indiana Will Surprise You
A recent study highlights the cheapest grocery stores in every state, and there’s a surprise for Indiana, and it’s not Aldi. In fact, I'm not sure that you'd even guess what it is at first.
I don't know about you, but one of my least favorite things to do as an adult is to go grocery shopping. It costs so much to get so little nowadays. I'm sure you'll agree that when you go to the checkout to purchase your groceries, you are always shocked by the fact that you spent a whole lot of money, even though your cart isn't even half full. Oh, and don't even get me started on the price of groceries in a full cart. On top of that, when you have eggs as expensive as they are right now, you'll want to go somewhere where you know you'll find savings.
Net Credit has a new list that shows the cheapest supermarket in each state. To do so, they created a list of grocery items and used Instacart.com to find the prices of the items across stores across America. Then, they compared the average price per item at each chain in each state against the state average to calculate the price premium for each chain locally. After the results came in, the data found that the cheapest supermarket in Indiana is one that you might not originally guess, but it's a place that you most certainly have been to multiple times.

Cheapest Grocery Store in Indiana
According to Net Credit, Target is officially the cheapest supermarket in Indiana. Surprisingly, it beat out Walmart. In fact, Target offers the cheapest groceries in 15 states. If I am being quite honest, I am surprised by this. Target wouldn't have been my first or even second guess as the cheapest grocery store in Indiana. Not that Target isn't a great store, I just feel like some other supermarket chains are more well-known for their lower prices. In any event, this just might make me want to take a second look at grocery shopping at Target.
The study had this to say about Target:
In May 2024, Target made sweeping reductions across 5,000 everyday grocery products, including brands like Huggies and Persil. In addition, Target stores offer a price match guarantee that applies not just to rival stores but to their own online pricing. If you see qualifying items cheaper than in the store, the store’s Guest Service should honor the cheaper price.
All the same, the best savings may be made by opting for Target’s private-label goods, which can be much cheaper than the sometimes-astonishing price of branded products.
