Two grocery stores that have ten locations combined throughout Indiana were recently named the most overpriced grocery stores in America. Any guesses?

I don't know about you, but one of my least favorite things to do as an adult is to go grocery shopping. It costs so much to get so little nowadays. I'm sure you'll agree that when you go to the checkout to purchase your groceries, you are always shocked by the fact that you spent a whole lot of money even though your cart isn't even half full. Oh, and don't even get me started on the price of groceries in a full cart.

We all have our favorite grocery stores to shop at though. These are the ones that we feel give us the best bang for our buck. I enjoy places like Ruler Foods because I really can tell the difference in price at checkout compared to something like Walmart. That being said, there are all kinds of grocery stores across the state of Indiana that pride themselves in their lower prices.

Recently, the food website, Delish, wrote about the most overpriced grocery stores in America. As it turns out, Indiana is home to two of the worst in the country. Do you think you can guess what they are? Spoiler Alert: you're about to find out!

Indiana is Home to Two of the Most Overpriced Grocery Stores

If you were to ask me, every grocery store is overpriced nowadays thanks to many factors like the supply chain, cost of living in the area, ingredient quality, and other competitors. However, some grocery stores in Indiana are a little more expensive than others. So, which two grocery stores in Indiana are among the most overpriced in the country? Let's check it out.

Whole Foods

With five locations in Indiana, Whole Foods is without a doubt one of the most overpriced grocery stores in the country. According to Delish:

<p class="css-1nd4gv7 et3p2gv0" data-journey-content="true" data-node-id="12">There’s a reason why Whole Foods is often referred to as “Whole Paycheck.” Since being founded in 1980, Whole Foods has earned a reputation for being one of the most overpriced grocery stores in the country. And now, with the rising cost of living, the store’s exclusivity is even more blatant.</p>

The Fresh Market

I have been to The Fresh Market a couple of times and they have some pretty cool things in store. However, it's one of those chains that does tend to cost you a pretty penny whenever you shop there. In Indiana, we have five locations scattered throughout the state. Here's what Delish said about The Fresh Market:

<p class="css-1nd4gv7 et3p2gv0" data-journey-content="true" data-node-id="21">The Fresh Market was founded by Ray and Beverly Berry <a class="body-link css-1h6cyse et3p2gv0" href="https://www.thefreshmarket.com/about-us" target="_blank" data-vars-ga-outbound-link="https://www.thefreshmarket.com/about-us" data-vars-ga-ux-element="Hyperlink" data-vars-ga-call-to-action="in 1982">in 1982</a> after they took a trip to Europe and were inspired by all the open-air markets. They now have 159 locations in 22 states and are dedicated to offering high-quality groceries.</p><p class="css-1nd4gv7 et3p2gv0" data-journey-content="true" data-node-id="22">The Fresh Market sells great products in every <a class="body-link css-1h6cyse et3p2gv0" href="https://www.thefreshmarket.com/our-products/our-departments" target="_blank" data-vars-ga-outbound-link="https://www.thefreshmarket.com/our-products/our-departments" data-vars-ga-ux-element="Hyperlink" data-vars-ga-call-to-action="department">department</a>. It sounds like the grocery store of everyone’s dreams—but there’s a catch. It’s pricey. Now, I know that you could probably make an argument that many other grocery stores in Indiana should be included in this "overpriced" list, and you'd most likely be correct. However, these, along with a few more that Delish mentioned are among the most well-known for being overpriced. You can check out the full list by clicking here.
