Don’t Leave These Items in Your Car When it’s Hot in Indiana

We all keep several items in our vehicles just because, but some of them should be taken out of there whenever it's really hot outside.

So far in 2023, we haven't experienced any days that were too hot...yet. I'm sure those days will be coming. So, now is the perfect time to let you know about some things you should be aware of regarding the heat and your vehicle. As you know, if it's 95 degrees outside, the temperature inside your vehicle gets even hotter. It can get over 150 degrees inside your vehicle. That's pretty hot! That's why you aren't allowed to leave your pets or kids in your vehicle when it's hot outside. This also means that some items that you typically leave inside of your vehicle might not be able to sustain the heat.

There are several items that you might have in your vehicle right now that you should take out before it gets too hot. These things could melt, catch fire, get spoiled quickly, or... it could be fatal. Let's take a look at these items now.

Medication

If medication is left out in the heat it could melt or become less effective.

Sunglasses

Leaving sunglasses in your car when it's hot out, especially if left on your dashboard, could spark a fire.

Water Bottles

I'm always guilty of this one. Much like sunglasses, leaving a bottle of water in your vehicle could start a fire. Plus, the bottle can melt and cause a mess in your car.

Food

If you're like me and like to eat on the go, you might have some food in your vehicle. However, if it's left out in the heat (and you plan on eating it at some point) bacteria can grow faster and cause you to get sick.

Phones and Tablets

These electronic devices tend to get really hot sitting in the car, which can damage batteries and shorten their life.

Sunscreen

Not only will it make the liquid hot when you go to apply it, but the heat can also reduce the sunscreen’s SPF.

Aerosol cans

If left in a hot car, they can explode, and Fix points out that they are very flammable. So, think about taking that body spray or hair spray...whatever kind of aerosol cans you might have, out of your car.

Wet Swimsuits

If you visit the pool or beach, be sure to take those wet swimsuits out of your vehicle when you get home. Bacteria will grow fast on wet swimsuits in the heat. Not only that, but the bright colors of your swimsuit could bleed into your seats and stain them if hot enough.

So, once again, let this be a reminder to clean out your car and get rid of any of these items that you might have laying around in there before it gets too hot. Otherwise, you risk some unwanted disasters.
