You’re Likely Using Way Too Much Toothpaste Than You Should
How much toothpaste do you put onto your toothbrush? Chances are, you're using way too much.
They say that you learn something new every day, and today is no different. Let's talk about something that we all do at least once a day...brushing your teeth. When you wake up in the morning to get ready and you bust out the trusty toothbrush, how much toothpaste are you putting on there? Personally, I run a line of toothpaste from end to end and brush away. That's how I've always done it and that's how the majority of people I have seen brush their teeth as well. However, after 30 years of brushing my teeth, I've learned that's not how you're supposed to do it...and apparently, I'm not the only one.
Dr. K. Sarvendran, a dentist from Toronto, Canada has recently gone viral on TikTok for warning people about how much toothpaste you should actually be putting on your toothbrush. Not only that but putting too much toothpaste on your brush can be bad for your teeth. According to The Sun, there have been studies have shown that using too much toothpaste can break down enamel. This is because toothpaste contains abrasives. Those abrasives added with vigorous brushing can thin down enamel over time.
So how much toothpaste should you be putting on your toothbrush? Dr. K. Sarvendran says that children under the age of three only need a smear of toothpaste on their brush. Anyone over the age of three should only put on a pea-sized amount of toothpaste on their brush.
This would have been nice to have known 30 years ago. I could have saved some money and enamel over time. Oh well! Better late than never. The next time I brush my teeth, you can bet that I'll only be using a pea-sized amount of toothpaste on my brush.
