Local Funeral Home To Employ Therapy Dogs

A local funeral home has recently became the first funeral home to "employ" therapy dogs. Therapy dogs have definitely came a long way and I couldn't be more proud/excited for them.

Ziemer Funeral Homes has added two unique staff members according to a press release sent out this morning. Milo and Aree are two Newfoundland/Poodle puppies that are currently in training to serve as therapy dogs at Ziemer. We have see so many therapy dogs getting new jobs and this one is definitely near and dear to my heart. After all, I love dogs so much. In my experience with anxiety and depression, my dogs are there to help me. While they aren't therapy dogs, they know when a panic attack is coming on and know just what I need. They will bark for me to take them on a walk or they will get in bed with me just to be there. Dogs are amazing!

According to the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, "Therapy dogs allow those grieving to receive some comfort and relieve stress and anxiety for a bit. This is true for grieving children who may not be comfortable talking about their feelings with adults. Therapy dogs give them someone to talk to and comfort during an emotional and confusing time. Death is difficult enough for many adults to understand, let alone trying to make sense of it for children."
