Indiana Among Most Affordable States for Christmas Dinner in 2024
Despite consumer prices rising 2.7% in November, Indiana remains one of the cheapest states for preparing a Christmas dinner in 2024.
Christmas dinner is perhaps my favorite part of Christmas Day festivities. In addition to the company, it's always a joy to see so many people come together for our annual family potluck, each sharing their own sweet and savory recipes. However, in 2024, making those delicious dishes may be more expensive than ever. Still, looking on the bright side, Christmas dinner in Indiana is significantly cheaper than in most other states, according to a new study by SumUp.
The Most Affordable State for Christmas Dinner in 2024
SumUp has analyzed the rising costs of food across America ahead of Christmas, while also taking a deep dive into the price of a holiday meal. The data revealed the states that are faring quite well despite inflation when it comes to shopping for holiday dish ingredients. Coming in as the No. 1 most affordable state for Christmas dinner is actually Texas, with an average cost of $46.06. Depending on how many people you're feeding, any meal under $50 is a win in my book these days.
How Affordable Is Christmas Dinner in Indiana for 2024?
While Indiana might not be the most affordable destination for Christmas dinner, it's only a few spots away from Texas, checking in at No. 6 on the list. According to SumUp, the cost of a Christmas meal in Indiana for 2024 will run you about $47.80. That's certainly much better than I might have anticipated. It’s worth noting, however, that we don’t know exactly what quality of goods that money will buy you, only that it’s been deemed more affordable than in other states.
Looking at Hoosier data further, the study also found that the average Christmas spending as a whole will clock in at around $1,023.83. Additionally, Google searches for "Cheap Christmas Tree" seemed to be up this year. All that said, the Christmas season isn't about money, so I would encourage you not to feel pressured to overspend. Focus instead on the priceless moments spent with those who matter most.
