Indiana is home to four cities that made a website's list of the most dangerous cities in the United States in 2023.

Indiana towns are really a hot topic lately. However, in this case, it isn't a good thing. Seeing things like this makes me even more proud to be from a small quiet town in Indiana, not a bigger city packed with crime.  Boonville, Indiana is a great place to raise a family and to call home. I don't care what anyone says. I feel much safer living there than I would in a bigger city, and after reading a new report on the most dangerous cities in the United States, it certainly reinforces why I chose to live there.

Recently we have covered many Indiana towns and cities in articles such as the worst small towns in Indiana, an Indiana small town that makes you feel like you are in a Hallmark movie, the best must-visit small town in Indiana, and HGTV naming this Indiana town as the most charming in the state, now we are going to look at some cities that you might want to avoid living in all together in Indiana.

Most Dangerous Cities in 2023

A website called neighborhoodscout.com put together its list of the most dangerous cities in the United States, and it's all based on data and crime reports...not just opinion.

Our research reveals the 100 most dangerous cities in America with 25,000 or more people, based on the number of violent crimes per 1,000 residents.  Violent crimes include rape, armed robbery, and aggravated assault.  The data used for this research are the number of violent crimes reported to have occurred in each city, and the population of each city.  Based on the latest national data available at the time of publication, representing calendar year 2021 and released in October 2022, this report reveals interesting patterns about safety from crime in America.

As it turns out, there were four cities in Indiana that made this list. This certainly isn't a list that you'd want to see your city fall on. So, what Indiana cities made the list of the most dangerous cities in the United States in 2023? Let's find out.

While these might be the most dangerous cities in Indiana, they still aren't as bad as the city that landed at number one on this list, Bessemer, Alabama where you have a 1 in 30 chance of being a victim of a violent crime. Personally, I am surprised that a city that I have never heard of before came in at number one. I would have thought that a city like Chicago or New York City would have been number one. In fact, neither one of those cities landed on the top 100 list, surprisingly. You can check out the full list of cities by clicking here.

16 Indiana Towns with Dirty-Sounding Names

A majority of these towns were given their names in the mid-to-late 1800s as settlers making their way across the country found unclaimed plots of land and decided to make them their own. While I imagine they thought the names they came up with were innocent, and perhaps a tribute to something in their lives, pop culture has warped our minds to the point since then that we can't help but think of something about the town that was never intended by its founders. Take a look at this list. I guarantee there's at least one name that will make you chuckle.

30 Bizarre (and Real) Indiana High School Mascots

According to High School.com, there are 682 high schools in Indiana. 555 of those are public schools, while the remaining 127 are private. A majority of those schools have chosen typical mascots to represent them, like eagles, tigers, lions, jets, patriots, and so on and so forth. But, these 30 schools decided to go, well, a different direction.
