These are the 10 Most Dangerous Cities in Indiana for 2023
A recent study was conducted ranking the ten most dangerous cities in Indiana for 2023, and you might be surprised by this list.
When you think of Indiana overall, you don't really associate it with crime. Sure, criminal acts happen all of the time, but that's not typically the stereotype that goes with Indiana. I mean Indiana isn't even one of the top ten most dangerous states in the country. No matter what state you live in, there are always certain places that you want to avoid due to how dangerous some of the neighborhoods are, and Indiana is no exception. Last year, we reported the 10 most dangerous cities in the state for 2022, and I was baffled at how my hometown of Boonville somehow made that list. I've lived there practically my whole life, and "dangerous" isn't even close to a word that I would use to describe the small town. Now, new data has surfaced, so let's see what the 10 most dangerous cities in Indiana are in 2023.
10 Most Dangerous Cities In Indiana
Last year, we found our data from RoadSnacks. In 2023, the data comes from Southwest Journal. So things could look a little different than 2022's list. Before we go into this list, it is important to first know how Southwest Journal used data to come to the results:
A total of 59 cities were scrutinized. The latest FBI crime report was consulted for violent crime and property crime statistics for every location with a population exceeding 5,000. The analysis revealed that while Indiana’s overall violent and property crime rates are above the national average, the figures in the state’s most dangerous places leave room for improvement.
Now that we have gotten that out of the way, let's check out the top ten most dangerous cities in Indiana for 2023.

There it is again. Boonville ranking among the top 10 most dangerous cities in Indiana. They say that this is primarily due to a high rate of violent crimes in a population of just 6,200. However, I have a feeling that there are far more dangerous cities such as Gary, Indiana that could have taken that spot. That's just my opinion.
In any event, I wouldn't let these findings deter you from visiting some of these places. These cities have so much to offer folks in the area. Although, I would be cautious about entering some areas if they seem a little "off". There are still some pretty cool places to shop, visit, eat, and drink in all of these towns.
