“Terminator 2: Judgment Day” Celebrates Its 30th Anniversary
It's not often that a movie sequel is better than the original. However, in the case of the Terminator films, it is certainly true.
In 1984, the world was introduced to The Terminator. A movie where Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a robot from the future sent back in time to kill the mother of the future leader of the resistance in a war against the machines. The Terminator was great. It had a lot going for it and it was ahead of its time. The film's squeal, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, was released seven years later and blew the original out of the water.
Movie sequels typically aren't better than the original, but it's hard to argue that Terminator 2 isn't the best movie in that franchise. It's hard to believe that it's been 30 years since Sarah and John Conner, along with the help of the T-800 successfully stopped the T-1000 and the rise of Skynet. That's right! Terminator 2: Judgement Day was released 30 years ago on July 3, 1991. Crazy right?
It seems like just the other day we were hearing "Hasta la vista, baby", "come with me if you want to live", and "I'll be back" for the first time. Terminator 2 is one of my favorite movies of all time. I can remember getting so excited when I saw it playing on TV, no matter what my parents wanted to watch, Terminator 2 (and myself) overruled. It's an iconic film that none of the other movies before or after have been able to top.
I can't tell how old it makes me feel to know that this movie is now 30 years old. However, Terminator 2: Judgement Day stands the test of time. It holds up as one of (if not the best) movie sequels of all time, and rightfully so. What are some of the other movie sequels that were as good, if not better than the original? Let's take a look...
