There's just something about the fall season. We're finally getting out of the oppressively humid summer heat season, and things are starting to cool down.  Not only are the temperatures better, but the scenery changes as the leaves change color and put on quite the spectacle for us to observe. People from all over the country travel to places to catch a glimpse of the changing leaves. Each year the colors can vary due to the process that trees and plants go through to make the leaves change.

According to the Forest Service U.S. Department of Agriculture, the colors that the leaves turn to are influenced by three things the weather, length of night time, and the color of the leaf.

For years, scientists have worked to understand the changes that occur in trees and shrubs during autumn. Although we don't know all the details, we do know enough to explain the basics to help you enjoy nature's multicolored display. Three factors influence autumn leaf color:

- leaf pigments

- length of night

- weather

The timing of color changes and the onset of falling leaves is primarily regulated by the calendar as nights become longer.

Indiana Town Named Among the Best in the Nation for Fall Foliage

Country Living named the 55 best towns from across the United States to view fall foliage, and one quaint little Indiana town was named among the best in the country.  It should come as no surprise that Nashville, Indiana ranked among those 55.
