When you were in school, what did your mom pack in your lunch... peanut butter & jelly, tuna, bolgna or even fruit? A new study reveals that most brown bag lunches are at an unacceptable temperature by the time lunch rolls around. Researchers at the University of Texas found that almost 90 percent of the lunches they tested were at a very unhealthy temperature. Even if you use an insulated container or  ice packs, the temperature is most often unacceptable for your child. Dr. Nancy Snyderman reported on the 'Today' show recently that when foods get warm, bacteria can grow and children can be easily sickened by food poisoning. The worst products to keep at the right temperature are mayonnaise, cheese, yogurt and any milk product. You will need more than one ice pack to keep your child's lunch at the proper temperature says Snyderman. Foods that do not require refrigeration are your best bet or even dried foods. The survey tested more than 700 preschool children's lunches and there was a problem with almost every one of them. Check with your child's school to see what if any refrigeration methods are available for lunches brought from home.
