Apparently, Kentuckians are very stressed. More so than all but one state, as the Bluegrass State is one of the most stressed-out states in America in 2026.

Regardless of how great your life is, there will be moments when you feel overwhelmed or when things don't go the way you want.  Granted, it doesn't matter where you live; stress is always around. I don't know about you, but I have found that the older I get, the more I stress about things. Whether it be stress over money, commutes, work, family, friends, sports, politics, and more, everyone experiences stress. For residents of Kentucky, that's apparently the case more times than not, according to a recent study.

Kentucky is One of the Most Stressed States in America

WalletHub released its findings for the Most & Least Stressed States in 2026. Several factors were used in determining how stressed a state is, including these four key dimensions: Work-Related Stress, Money-Related Stress, Family-Related Stress, Health- & Safety-Related Stress. After the numbers and data were crunched, WalletHub found that the most stressed state in the country was Louisiana. However, right behind it was Kentucky.

That's right! Kentucky has the second-most stressed residents in the entire country. WalletHub says that many of the largest contributing factors are financial in nature; however, family an heath stress are also two big contributing factors.

The state has the third-highest unemployment rate in the country, sixth-highest bankruptcy rate, and one of the lowest median credit scores, at 689. These difficult conditions will impact their financial capabilities for years to come.

Kentucky State residents experience a lot of stress in their family lives, too, with some of the highest rates of separation, divorce and parental stress in the country.

Finally, health is a big concern. Around 23% of Kentucky residents report that their health is “fair” or “poor,” the fourth-highest rate in the country. Additional indicators show that Kentucky has the 10th-largest share of adults with poor mental health and the second-largest share of adults diagnosed with depression. These figures highlight broader health challenges facing residents across the state.

Stress is everywhere, whether you are in Kentucky or not. Times are tough, so money and work stress are not shocking to me, but those stressors can also bleed into other parts of your life, like family and your own health, making you even more stressed. That said, are you surprised that Kentucky ranked so high on this list?

Regardless of where you live, you are feeling those stresses on some level. Honestly, I don't know a single person who isn't stressed about one or more of those issues. Do you feel like Kentucky was ranked one of the most stressed states in the country?
