Indiana Summers

There's no denying that Indiana summers can be oppressively hot.  Some days the air is so thick with humidity that you walk outside and instantly start sweating. There are some days when being outside is pretty miserable unless you're in a pool.   But what if you're someone who enjoys nature?  Going on a nature hike is usually a fun way to explore, but sometimes it's just too hot to even hike! So what about getting your dose of nature another way?

Southern Indiana State Parks

Indiana is home to many state parks, and several have caves you can go and explore.  According to the Indiana Department of Resources, if you're looking for a unique way to cool off while enjoying nature this summer, you can always check out the caves at Spring Mill State Park, and O'Bannon Woods State Park.

Take a break from the heat for a cave hike and/or boat tour underground at Spring Mill and O’Bannon Woods state parks. Spring Mill State Park offers a Twin Caves Boat Tour and guided hikes of the Shawnee Cave System and Donaldson Cave. Guided tours are also available of the Little and Big Wyandotte caves at O'Bannon Woods State Park. You may need your jacket; cave temperatures can be in 50s. Get times and fees before you go at Spring Mill SP (on.IN.gov/springmill); O’Bannon Woods SP (on.IN.gov/obannonwoods).

I don't know about you, but a cool underground cave to explore to get a break from the Indiana heat sounds like a good time to me!
