The Internet's Favorite Small City

Recently the Wall Street Journal shared an Instagram post that piqued my interest. The post had a photo of a roundabout in a suburban neighborhood with the text "'How Did I End up In Indiana?' Welcome to the Internet's Favorite Small City."   Being from the Hoosier state myself I had to know what Indiana city has stolen the hearts of the internet, and it turns out that city is Carmel, Indiana. So why is Carmel, Indiana the Internet's "favorite small city?"

Carmel Named the Internet's Favorite

Over the past few years Carmel, Indiana has consistently been recognized across the internet in "best of" style articles.  Back in January of 2023, Carmel was named one of the best places to live in America, and in October of 2023, Carmel topped another list as the best small city in America. So this Hoosier city is no stranger to being recognized on a national level.

The article from the Wall Street Journal talks about how Carmel's population has more than quadrupled since 1990 which shows the popularity of this small city with that kind of growth in a mere 33 years.  The article also touches on the fact that Carmel is home to more than 150 roundabouts which they say moves traffic more efficiently and increases the walkability of the city.  The article also dives into the lives of three different families who have moved to Carmel from places like Los Angeles, California, and Austin, Texas.

You can check out the full article from the Wall Street Journal, here.  However, if you aren't a subscriber to the WSJ you can get a more in-depth look into the article from the Indy Star, here.
