Apparently, Indiana drivers need to chill according to a recent study.

According to Forbes, driving in the United States is getting increasingly dangerous due to confrontational driving, otherwise known as "road rage". What could cause the road rage? If I am basing it off of factors that we see a lot here in Southern Indiana, I would assume that a lot of these incidents could be attributed to construction, slower drivers, and drivers who aren't paying attention because they are on their phones. Or perhaps, the driver just had a bad day. There are several factors that could come into play when it comes to road rage.

Forbes' study found that in the past 12 months, 41% of drivers witnessed an act of road rage, 32% experienced road rage from another driver, and 22% felt road rage themselves. Not only that but between 2014 and 2023, road rage shootings increased by more than 400%, from 92 to 481. That's a lot of road rage incidents that could all be avoided. This new study from Forbes Advisor surveyed 10,000 licensed drivers and compared all 50 states across nine key metrics to determine which states have the most road rage. As it turns out, the results aren't too flattering for Indiana.

Indiana Ranked One of the Worst States for Road Rage

The study from Forbes found that Indiana tied with Virginia as the seventh worst state for road rage. There was a high number of drivers surveyed who have experienced drivers who were confrontational on Indiana roadways. According to the study:

  • Indiana has the fifth-highest percentage of drivers who report another driver has exited their vehicle to yell at or fight with them (12%).
  • The Hoosier State ranks the eighth highest for the percentage of drivers who say another driver has cut them off on purpose (44.5%).
  • The state also has the 11th-highest percentage of drivers who have been tailgated (58.5%).
  • Indiana has the 11th-highest percentage of drivers who have been yelled at, insulted, cursed at, or threatened by another driver (27.5%).

Whatever the reason behind it, drivers need to take a chill pill! All of that anger could lead to something bad happening on the road that could injure yourself or others. If you find yourself in a tense situation that causes you to develop road rage, simply back off. Take a different route to avoid the situation. If you find yourself feeling threatened on the road by a driver experiencing road rage, you are encouraged to call 911. Try to get a description of the car and report the aggressive behavior.

16 Indiana Towns with Dirty-Sounding Names

A majority of these towns were given their names in the mid-to-late 1800s as settlers making their way across the country found unclaimed plots of land and decided to make them their own. While I imagine they thought the names they came up with were innocent, and perhaps a tribute to something in their lives, pop culture has warped our minds to the point since then that we can't help but think of something about the town that was never intended by its founders. Take a look at this list. I guarantee there's at least one name that will make you chuckle.

But, these 30 schools decided to go, well, a different direction.
