There is a massive collection of Halloween movies to indulge in during spooky season, but this one likely isn't on most people's radar.

Halloween, or "spooky season," is something that a lot of folks love to go all out for, with decorations, costumes, candy, and, of course, classic Halloween horror films. Personally, none of that has ever been my cup of tea, but I have many friends who love this time of year for those reasons. If you love spooky season, too, I hope you enjoy every minute of it, and rest assured, I'll be around to scoop up the Halloween treats from store discount shelves on November 1st.

While you likely won't catch me hanging out at any haunted houses or watching a Chucky movie with the lights off, there is one film that I watch every time October rolls around. It's not a horror movie by any means, as I'm somewhat of a wimp when it comes to that particular genre. However, it is a film that takes place during Halloween, and it takes me right back to my childhood every time I watch it.

What Makes a Movie a Halloween Movie?

Does a "Halloween movie" have to be a horror flick? I don't think so. Really, any movie that takes place during Halloween is a "Halloween movie" in my book—or movie, rather. I apply this same line of thinking to Christmas films, which is why I wholeheartedly believe Die Hard (1988) is, in fact, a Christmas movie. (I don't care what Bruce Willis says; I will die on this hill.)

Scooby-Doo and the Goblin King

My favorite movie to watch during spooky season is none other than Scooby-Doo and the Goblin King (2008). I know it sounds silly to watch a movie made for children every year, but I really do enjoy putting this one on the TV. If you’ve never seen it, the plot centers around Shaggy and Scooby, who must find the "Goblin King" in order to stop a magician from ruining Halloween.

This movie always seems to rummage up some long-forgotten Halloween memories that make me smile when they come to mind. Last year, I was able to recall walking along the streets of Petersburg, Indiana, in the very early 2000s, dressed as your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Additionally, the film is just one of those "feel-good" flicks that makes you forget about all the junk in the world, which I can always get on board with.
