A world record-holding donut shop in the Hoosier State is said to be the Donut Capital of the World!
Donuts Have Been Around Since Ancient Times
Who knew the deep-fried delicious treat that we know as a donut has a history that dates back to Roman times? According to Sporked:
Deep-fried dough balls have been a popular treat since at least ancient Roman times and we still enjoy them today—but is a funnel cake really a donut? The philosophical debate rages on. And, of course, there’s the churro, whose ancient origins are in fact shrouded in mystery.
As far as the name itself, recipes for dough “nuts” started appearing in recipe books in the mid 1700s. Washington Irving even wrote about “dough-nuts” in his 1809 A History of New York.
That's a long history of satisfying people's sweet tooth! Recently, I learned that the Donut Capital of the World is located in the Hoosier State!
The (Blank) Capital of the World
While anyone can claim the title of the "capital" of something, few places can back that claim up. However, located in Angola, Indiana, is a popular donut shop that has been recognized on a world scale, as it holds an official world record, so I'd say this donut shop can certainly back up the claim of "Donut Capital of the World."
Tom's Donuts in Indiana is the Donut Capital of the world
Located in Angola, Indiana, is a quaint donut shop with two locations called Tom's Donuts. Tom's has perfected the art of creating a wide array of scrumptious donuts, which has kept them in business since 1970, and has even earned them a world record!

In 2022, Tom's Donuts set a Guinness World Record for the most freshly baked donuts sold in eight short hours. By the end of the day, they had made and sold 8,558 donuts to hundreds of people who had travelled from all over just to help Tom's reach the official world record.
There's more than just donuts, Tom's is also known for serving up savory coney dogs and burgers, as well as donuts and coffee. According to many travel blogs, Tom's Donuts is a must-visit if you're ever in the Angola area, and how often can you say you've eaten a world record-winning donut?
