You Probably Have One of These Types of Managers in Your Workplace

Imagine your workplace is a boat, you are a crewman and your manager is the captain. What type of captain is YOUR boss? :-)

1. The Overly Cautious Captain - You know the manager, the one that won't rock the boat. They paddle really slow, making sure not to make too many waves. Always looking over their shoulder so they don't bump into anything. Forever fearful that they will lose their job and that you will lose yours.

2. The Fly By The Seat of My Pants Captain - This is the captain that seems to have no idea what he or she is doing. They are the king, or queen, of the knee jerk reactions and decisions with no thought for the consequence. This is the manager that rocks the boat  SO much, it capsizes. Then, they just laugh and act oblivious while you and the others try to survive and swim to shore.

3. The It's My Idea Until It's a Bad Idea Captain - We have all had a boss like this. The one who has an open door policy and really wants to hear and talk about your cool idea. Then, in front of the crew, almost pushes you overboard to take credit for it. Sometimes even going as far as to say, 'It was a collaborative effort.' But, on the other hand, if the cool idea isn't accepted very well by the rest of the crew or fails to be successful, they are the first to point a finger at you and feed you to the sharks.

4. The Look At Me, I'm Amazing Captain - 'Oh, Captain, my Captain', they say as they admire their reflection in the mirror. LOL This captain is the one who you both admire and loathe at the same time. Their arrogant confidence in what they do and how they do it is kinda intimidating and frustrates the hell out of you. They work the hardest, are the most committed and they will remind you of that often. This captain stands at the front of the ship with the biggest paddle.  Make no mistake, this manager will swab the deck, fix the leak, fly the mast and defend the crew with their sword. They can and will do it all and they only hired you because they had to.
