There is a famous line in Alan Jackson's song "Chattahoochee" where he says that it's "hotter than a hoochie coochie," but what in the world does that even mean?!

Well, way down yonder on the Chattahoochee
It gets hotter than a hoochie coochie
We laid rubber on the Georgie asphalt
We got a little crazy but we never got caught

What's a Hoochie Coochie?

As a child, I was always afraid to sing that line because it just sounded like a dirty word. To this day, I still fear that my parents will wash my mouth out with soap if I say it in front of them. With it being so hot outside, many people are saying that line of the song, including myself. However, not many people know what it even means. If he can say it on the radio and get away with it, that means it can't be THAT bad, right???

Hoochie Coochie According to the Urban Dictionary

According to Urban Dictionary, a "hoochie-coochie is

"The genitals of a drunken woman. Derived from the term 'hooch', a slang word for alcohol and 'coochie', a slang word for a woman's genitals. The meaning becomes clear when you know the root-words involved."

Okay...that didn't go quite as planned...let's try another source...

Hoochie Coochie According to Wikipedia

According to Wikipedia (never to be used on school research):

The hoochie coochie is a catch-all term to describe any of a number of sexually provocative belly dance-like dances. Such dances, or something similar, were performed at the Crystal Palace Exhibition in London in 1851, the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia in 1876, and the World's Fair in Paris in 1889

A Hoochie Coochie is a Dance

I'm going to go with that definition...yeah. Although, Alan and co-writer Jim McBride would probably be the best source to find out exactly what was meant when they wrote this song. Either way, it's a good song....and if it's safe for him to say on the radio, I would assume it is safe for you to say aloud in public!

How Hot is HOT?

However, there is still one question that remains: At what temperature is it officially hotter than a hoochie coochie? We may never know...
