Students and faculty members at schools in Warrick County will be sporting a new addition to the dress code when the doors open for the new school year on August 12th with the announcement they'll all be required to wear face masks while inside their respective schools.

In a letter e-mailed to parents on Friday afternoon, Superintendent Brad Schneider said the decision to require masks be worn during the school day was made following Governor Eric Holcomb's announcement on Wednesday that he would be signing an executive order mandate the use of face masks statewide beginning Monday, July 27th. Schneider noted in the announcement the corporation's original plan was to only require their use when students were riding the bus.

All schools will have disposable masks available for students who need or forget them, however the corporation is strongly encouraging students bring their own from home. In regards to the types of masks student's can wear, Schneider said, "Approved face coverings include masks, shields, and gaiter face masks," adding the "coverings must completely cover the nose and mouth and comply with WCSC dress code guidelines."

July 23, 2020

Dear Warrick County Parents and Guardians:

This letter is to update you on our plan to safely open our schools on August 12, 2020. Our full plan can be viewed on the WCSC website, and school specific plans will be posted in the next couple of days. As COVID-19 cases continue to increase, we have determined additional safety steps are necessary.

Our initial plan required face coverings on buses and strongly recommended them during the school day. Given Governor Holcomb’s July 22, 2020 directive requiring masks, and the fact masks have been proven to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus, WCSC will now require all staff and students in grades 3 through 12 to wear face coverings while attending school. Students in grades K-2 are still required to have face coverings on the bus and are strongly recommended to wear face coverings throughout the school day. This action is being taken for the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community and is fully supported by the WCSC Board of Trustees.

WCSC will have disposable masks available for all students. Students will also be allowed to utilize their own face covering if they so choose. Approved face coverings include masks, shields, and gaiter face masks. Face coverings must completely cover the nose and mouth and comply with WCSC dress code guidelines. We appreciate your cooperation and thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we work through this pandemic.

Sincerely,

Brad Schneider
Superintendent, Warrick County School Corporation
