The Town of Newburgh had a particularly tough night last Saturday. On top of the concern over the spread of the coronavirus, parts of the town sustained major damage after an EF-2 tornado ripped through the area leading to officials placing the entire town under two states of emergency, one for each incident. Part of those declarations included the closing of the popular Rivertown Trail walking path. But it seems not everyone got the memo.

How do we know that? Because the Newburgh Police Department put this reminder on their Facebook page Wednesday night:

The Newburgh Police Department would like to emphasize that the Rivertown Trail is closed to everyone and there are no exceptions to this rule.

Officers will be monitoring the area on a daily basis during the closure.

Thank you for your cooperation.

According to the official statement from town officials the Trail was closed "For the privacy of the homeowners that suffered damage, for crews to continue cleanup and to ensure social distancing."

The Trail isn't the only thing closed. "All other Town owned parks have been closed" as well which includes "Veterans Monument, Lou Dennis Community Park, Old Lock and Dam Park, Indian Hill Overlook Park, Kiwanis Community Park and AMAX Fields."
