The Bluegrass State is known for a great many wonderful things but in a recent study driving is not one of them.  Kentucky ranks in the top 10 Most Dangerous States to drive in.

WHAT DO OUR HIGHWAYS SAY ABOUT US?

Over a period of ten years, data was collected through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).  This data basically shared the amount of driver-related deaths compared to the population of the state.

Agruss Law Firm took the time to study the data to figure out where each state ranked and they compiled a Top 10.  According to their report, Kentucky ranks #8;

Kentucky is eighth, with 96.66 driver deaths per 100,000 people and 4,319 driver deaths over the ten-year study. Kentucky’s death rate is 82% higher than the national average. Fatality numbers reached a high in 2016 with 473 deaths but this has been on a decline each year since.

WHAT IS THE REASONING BEHIND IT ALL?

We decided to look deeper into the reasoning behind why Kentucky ranks in the Top 10.  Distracted Driving was named as one of the main reasons there are so many fatalities, especially among teens.  In 2021, Whistle Out ranked the Best and the Worst states for distracted driving and Kentucky came in at #5.  While Indiana ranked #5 for best driving.
