J.C. Penney will be closing almost 200 stores in 2020, and nearly 50 more locations in 2021. They have yet to announce which stores will be affected, including the Evansville and Owensboro locations.

According to a report from CNN Business, J.C. Penney expects to have a little more than 600 stores still open by the end of 2021, according to their recent bankruptcy filing. According to the report, they are hoping to use this bankruptcy to turn around business. Let's hope our Owensboro and Evansville locations are safe.

I grew up shopping at J.C. Penney in the 70s and 80s. I remember getting the catalog and circling what I wanted Santa to bring me for Christmas. Just like Sears, it was part of my history. Remember the candy counter? Oh, the sweet memories!
