Kentucky’s Mammoth Cave National Park Tackles Criticism With Sarcasm and Humor
Recently, Kentucky's Mammoth Cave National Park earned the less-than-stellar distinction as one of the "most disappointing tourist attraction in the U.S.."
Mist Disappointing Tourist Attractions in the U.S.
More specifically, the Bluegrass State's natural wonder landed in the number 3 spot on the list, only being beaten out by the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame at #2 and the Kennedy Space Center taking the #1 position. The study, as shared by our friends WEHT, utilized data from Google and Tripadvisor reviews to determine the ranking.
World's Longest Cave
For the uninitiated, Mammoth Cave is the world's longest cave system - and in 2022, they discovered another 6 miles of it! The total length of the cave measures at more than 400 miles long. That's pretty impressive, if you ask us.
Mammoth Cave National Park Has a Sense of Humor and a Touch of Sarcasm
Fortunately, the folks at Mammoth Cave National Park have a sense of humor. They aren't taking the criticism too seriously, and whoever managed their social media is rather brilliant, if not a little bit snarky.
Come experience what has disappointed millions of people for over 225 years!
Mammoth Cave Is "Nothing Cool" and "Very Dark"
Apparently not everyone shares our love of cool, natural wonders as some reported the cave to be "very dark," while other visitors said there was "nothing cool" there. First of all, it's a cave... underground... of course it's dark. What were they expecting? As for nothing cool, well, actually... it stays about 54 degrees all year round. We'd say that's pretty cool. *shrugs
Delivering the Sarcasm and Snark to the Critics
Of course, we don't have to defend the cave. They did a great job of that on their Facebook page:
If you would like to experience the disappointment of Mammoth Cave, visit our website and choose from one of our many activities that will leave you unfulfilled! You can be disappointed by a “dry hole with very few stalagmites and stalactites” or discover nothing “other than trees” on over 80+ miles of hiking, biking, horseback riding, and water trails. (Fair warning – there are bugs in the outdoors, cellular phone service is spotty, and there are stairs on some of our cave tours.)
A world of regret awaits you at Mammoth Cave!
