The Indiana State Police are asking for your help in a case involving a child's body which was Saturday evening in the southeastern part of the state.

Child's Body Discovered in Sellersburg, Indiana Saturday Night

According to investigators, a resident of the town, roughly 45 minutes north of Louisville, discovered the child's body while hunting mushrooms in a rural part of Washington County around 7:30 PM. Authorities believe he may have been dead for about a week, according to ABC affiliate, WHAS-TV in Louisville.

State Police have released the following description of the child:

...a young, black male between the ages of five years old and eight years old. The child is approximately four feet tall and has a slim build and a short haircut.

"Somebody Out There Knows Who This Child Is"

Sergeant Carey Huls with the Indiana State Police in Sellersburg held a press conference on Sunday asking for the public's assistance in identifying the boy and said what makes this case even more puzzling is there has been no missing child report filed in the past week with local authorities matching the description of the body found on Saturday.

An autopsy is pending and the cause of death has not been revealed at this time. In the meantime, if you have any information that may help investigators with the Indiana State Police identify the body, how it ended up where it was found or any family members who may be looking for the child, call Detective Matt Busick in Sellersburg at 1-812-248-4374 or 1-800-872-6743.
