Indiana’s Most Popular McDonald’s Item May Need a Recount
McDonald's has several iconic menu items, but likely no one expected this order to be the favorite in the Hoosier State.
I've had just about every item on the McDonald's menu—which sounds more like a confession than a flex. That said, I have a somewhat acceptable reason. I actually worked for the company for almost two years in high school. It was my first real job, and every shift we got a free meal. My personal favorite items were the grilled chicken snack wrap (RIP) and the Daily Double. However, it looks like other Hoosiers' favorite McMenu items are neither.
The Most Popular McDonald's Item in Indiana Is NOT a Big Mac
Let's go ahead and rule this one out as well. According to data compiled by Illinoisbet.com, the Big Mac reigns supreme as the top choice in 31 states, including Illinois. One of the 19 states where it doesn't, however, is Indiana. This is quite surprising to me, as this sandwich is pretty much the flagship of the McDonald's menu. With over 1,000 McDonald's locations in the Hoosier State, it's actually another sandwich that remains the most popular, and it's not one I would have guessed.
The Most Popular McDonald's Item in Indiana Is...
The most popular McDonald's menu item in the state of Indiana is none other than the famed McRib. Coming in at the second most popular item was, in fact, the Big Mac, followed by the famous snack wraps the chain has since discontinued. It's also worth noting that the McRib was the second most popular menu item in about 20 states. The seasonal favorite consists of a boneless pork patty doused in McRib sauce, topped with onions and pickles, on a hoagie-style sesame seed bun.
I've had my fair share of McRibs over the years, and they're not terrible by any means. I know a few folks who look forward to it every time "McRib season" rolls around. On the other hand, the majority of people I know aren't fans and complain that it's too plain and overly processed. Most of the appeal is likely its limited availability, so I'm curious if it would still reign supreme in the Hoosier State if it were a menu regular. Do you think we need a recount?
