How Often Should Hoosiers Wash Their Car During the Winter
As you know, we are in the midst of winter here in Indiana. All of that salt and snow can leave your vehicle pretty messy. That being said, do you know how often you should be washing your car during the winter?
Today, most of Indiana got hit with a little bit of winter weather. The amount of snowfall seemingly increased the further north you got. Here in southern Indiana, we just got a dusting. Of course, we still have a little bit of winter left to go. It looks like there are still more frigid cold temperatures and snow on the way very soon. According to The Old Farmer's Almanac:
Winter will be colder than normal, with below-normal precipitation but above-normal snowfall. The coldest periods will occur in early and mid-December, early and late January, and much of February, with the snowiest periods throughout January and in late February and early March.
How much more snow we will get this winter in Indiana is still unknown, but one thing people might not think about is how the snow, salt, and other messes will affect your vehicle. That's when going to the car wash comes in handy, but how often should you wash your car during the winter? Let's find out how often you should visit the car wash and the most important part of your vehicle to keep clean.

Jim Dvorak, head of public relations and technical support at Mothers car-care products tells Cars.com that you should make routine visits to the car wash, about every two weeks or whenever the vehicle looks worse for wear due to wintry weather conditions.
Most Important Part of Your Car To Keep Clean
As you might know, soil, ice, and salt can cause corrosion can lead to rust, and can shorten the lifespan of your vehicle. According to Cars.com:
“It’s not just visible rust from standing alongside the vehicle,” Dvorak said. “Underneath there is a lot of vulnerability with heat shields, suspension components and even the chassis.”
So, cleaning the undercarriage at the car wash is probably the most important part of your car to keep clean. Keeping the undercarriage clean can help with the longevity of your vehicle. That being said, you might have to spend an extra dollar or two to spray the undercarriage of your vehicle at the car wash, but considering this is extremely beneficial to your car during the winter months, it's totally worth it.
So, make sure you keep your vehicle clean this winter, especially underneath your car. Oh, and be sure that you have a winter weather emergency kit somewhere in your vehicle. You can see what you should include in that emergency kit below:
