Recently my husband and I bought a house, and of course with buying a house comes fixing things up!

Our house didn't have a lot of things that needed to be updated mainly just some paint here and there.  Our house was built in the 90s so there was wood and brass everywhere, those were the things we wanted to fix up. Not that there's anything wrong with wood and brass, but this style wood and brass just wasn't our style so we wanted to update the kitchen without breaking the bank, so we figured instead of getting new cabinets (which is super duper expensive) we'd just paint the ones we already have! I was hesitant but I'm glad we did!

Now just so you know this blog isn't sponsored, this isn't an ad or anything, so I'm not getting anything by telling you this, but we used the Rustoleum cabinet transformations kit, it was $70 at the hardware store, and you get the paint in the kit mixed to the color you want, we chose "Castle" gray.   The other money came from buying new hardware for the doors and drawer pulls.  I found a set of 12 brushed nickel knobs for $27 so I just bought a few packs of those (I plan on doing our bathroom vanities later on).

Here's the after! Now there's still a few things I'd like to update like the light fixture, and the outlets are all tan so I need to change those out, but look at what doing nothing but painting the cabinets did

The kit comes with everything you need, we didn't even have to sand the cabinets, we used a deglosser and scrubbing pad that came with the kit, and then followed the kits instructions.  The only step we skipped was putting on the optional decorative glaze that came with the kit, we preferred the looks of the cabinets without the glaze.

Other than that it was a fairly easy process.  Super time consuming, but worth it!

A few tips for if you paint your cabinets,

  1. number your cabinets so you remember where they go back up
  2. Buy these little tripod looking things so you can set your cabinets on them as you paint them.  These guys were lifesavers. We bought like 5 packs.
  3. Take your time, don't rush the process, make sure they fully dry before hanging them back up
