Save a Life: Do This to Protect Animals Near Your Indiana Pool

As a relatively new dog parent, I'm always looking for things that could be a hazard to my canine companion. For example, when my now 6-month-old puppy, Luna, was teething, she would chew on everything. It took a lot of effort to make sure that she didn't get a hold of anything that was toxic to dogs. I felt like I did a pretty good job at this until I came home one day and discovered a small portion of my couch was missing. Luckily, I found the pieces on the other side of the house, so the only thing that was hurt was my furniture and wallet.

In addition to being aware of objects inside your home dangerous for pets, you should also be mindful of potentially harmful outside elements as well. There is one helpful pool-related tip that everyone should know if you want to protect animals around your house. While I don't have a pool personally, there are many in my neighborhood who do, so this could save the life of your or someone else's pet.

The Vincennes, Indiana Animal Shelter recently posted on Facebook that shelter staff were able to rescue two dogs from drowning who had fallen into an area pool. Shelter officials noted that the dogs were hypothermic and had to be rushed to the vet, but that they are expected to make a full recovery. To avoid this happening to other dogs, neighborhood squirrels, or stray animals, they recommend installing a rubber mat from your pool to your deck or ladder. This will give animals a way to escape the water if they manage to find themselves in trouble. You can see an example below:

Taking a little extra time to install one of these nifty contraptions will definitely be worth it for the animals in your community. It doesn't look to be too expensive, as all you really need are some deck screws, washers, and the rubber mat.
