Popular Evansville Sports Bar Announces It Will Be Closing After 23 Years
A popular local sports bar took to Facebook to announce it would soon be closing its doors, so they are hosting a special last call.
Sports Bars
Sports bars are known for having multiple TVs to enjoy your favorite teams play while eating food and having a drink or two. And there's truly something to say about the experience you get at a sports bar. It's a fun atmosphere, especially when you're in an area like we are in Evansville, where people take their sports fandom seriously. Hoosiers are nothing if not loyal to their favorite sports team.
Just recently, my husband and I were at this particular bar eating dinner and watching IU play, and it was so much fun because the place was jam-packed with IU fans. We won't talk about how the game ended for Indiana University, but we did have a lot of fun cheering on the Hoosiers with other fans while enjoying some dinner. So to see that this bar would soon be closing for good was quite the bummer.
Closing After Two-Decades in Evansville
On March 12th, Evansville's popular Doc's Sports Bar took to Facebook to announce that, unfortunately, the numbers just aren't going to work out in their favor, and they will soon have to shut the doors at Doc's. In true Doc's fashion, owner Big Cat wrote the announcement on Facebook, which said in part:
The past few Summers here at Doc’s have been daunting… brutal, even. We typically trudge through and make it to football, and celebrate, but this year, it just doesn’t seem like it is going to work out mathematically.

The post goes on to say that the owners were all talking about the best way to go about closing the doors, and they decided they wanted to close on their own terms. They also wanted to be completely transparent with their employees and give them plenty of time to seek employment, for which I have to give them a lot of props. But this isn't the end just yet, the next few weeks they will be having a heck of a good time with a last call in time for plenty of March basketball!
All Great Bars Deserve a Last Call
You can still enjoy Doc's Sports Bar for a few more weeks as they aren't closing until April 7th, and of course, they'll be airing plenty of basketball over the next few weeks.
And finally, we decided that all great bars deserve a last call. One last chance to catch up, connect, and say goodbye. But we aren’t doing a funeral shift. We are doing a whole ass basketball tournament. We will continue operating through March Madness, and hope to see you all in here. We’ll have four more weeks to eat these World Class Wings, and drink a few cold beers together, and to scream at the TV with Big Cat. Our official last day will be Monday, April 7th, for the National Championship game. We came onto this scene riding the back of sports, and that’s how we’re choosing to go out.
Now is not the time for the sappy post. I’ll handle that later. But, if there is one last thing I can do for Doc’s Sports Bar before this iteration of its’ 23 year history comes to a close, it’s this… to ensure that these last four weeks will not, in fact, be a funeral. They will be the most grand damn parade in Evansville bar history.
