You may not instantly recognize his name, but I guarantee you are familiar with the work of Matt Williams. The Evansville native is best known as the creator and executive producer of Roseanne, and as the co-creator and executive producer of Home Improvement. Matt also spent a few seasons writing for a little show you might remember from the 80s called The Cosby Show. Oh yeah, he was also a co-creator of the Cosby spin-off series A Different World - for that, I say thank you for introducing me to Jasmine Guy.

How in the world am I just now founding out about this guy? I have written several articles about famous people from Indiana and Evansville in particular, and I have not once learned about Matt. Come to find out, Mr. Williams is a graduate of F.J. Reitz High School and a graduate of the University of Evansville. This weekend, you have the chance to learn more about Matt from Matt himself. Williams is coming back to his hometown for a special event on the UE campus.

"Glimpses: An Evening with Matt Williams" will be held this Saturday, January 21, at 7:30pm in Shanklin Theatre's John David Lutz Theatre Lab. Matt will promote his upcoming book, Glimpses. A reception will be held afterward in the Matt Williams Lobby. This event is a fundraiser for the theatre lab and tickets can be purchased online for $75 each. Livestream tickets are also available for just $25.

The University of Evansville Alumni Association wrote this about Matt's upcoming memoir Glimpses...

During a hardscrabble childhood, Matt heard the voice of a loving, generous Spirit who would be his guide for the rest of his life. This Spirit would lead him into the glamorous realms of New York and Hollywood’s entertainment industry and show him, in encounters both delightful and heartwarming, that God can be found everywhere—especially where you least expect Her. This book presents readers with a compelling provocation—not only to see a glimpse of God in those around us, no matter the circumstances, but to be a glimpse of God for those who also need hope. Within the pages of this memoir is the very real truth: We can all be a light in the darkness.

38 Celebrities Who Were Born in Indiana

There are a bunch of famous folks that everyone knows were born in Indiana, but there are even more that you didn't know about. Most of this list is arranged in alphabetical order, except for the handful of celebrities born in our neck of the woods here in southern Indiana. I gotta give them a little preferential treatment.

Then & Now - Evansville's Washington Square Mall Through the Years

Evansville is home to a lot of unique buildings including the first enclosed retail shopping center in Indiana. Yes, our very own Washington Square Mall was the place to be when it opened in 1963. If you walk through the mall today, you would never guess how alive the shops were, even through the 1980s. Enjoy this walk down memory lane I've put together, and maybe someday there will be new life inside 5011 Washington Ave.
