The dog is okay, but this video is so scary.

A Pet Owner's Worst Nightmare

One of my biggest fears as a pet owner is having something happen to my house when no one is home except my dog, George. I mean, think about it, when we aren't home, our pets are trapped if something were to happen. I mean, just look at this big goofy guy. He wouldn't last 5 minutes in a catastrophe (to clear up any confusion, George is a dog, even though he is a very convincing llama in his costume).

I don't know that I'd ever be able to forgive myself if something happened to him while we aren't home.  I know this may sound irrational, but if you have pets, I'm sure you understand.  God forbid a fire breaks out or severe weather impacts my home. If George is home alone, he has no way to fend for himself.  So when I saw this viral video from Illinois, my heart sank.

Caught on Video: Dog Swims For His Life During Scary Flooding in Illinois

Before we go any further, I want you to know you can breathe easy because the dog is okay, but a homeowner's security camera caught the terrifying moments her dog was trapped in rising flood waters.

According to Fox Weather, on Friday, July 25th, torrential rain caused flash flooding in parts of Chicago. Nearly 5 inches of rain came down in a matter of a few hours.  This kind of rainfall can cause things to go from okay to deadly very quickly.

USA Today shared the video on Facebook, where it has amassed more than 350,000 views.  The video shows a little white dog swimming around the living room while trying a couple of times to get onto the couch.  With how high the water is, the poor pup can't get his footing to get himself up on the couch and away from the water.

Fox Weather reports that the dog's owner is Elysa Flores, and she was at a family function when the flooding happened.  Thankfully, she had the thought to check her security camera, and that's when she found the footage of her dog struggling.   I can't even imagine what was going through her head in that moment. I'm sure it was instant panic.  Thankfully, she reports her dog is doing fine, and she was able to rush home to rescue her dog.  Unfortunately, she did lose all of her furniture, but furniture can be replaced; our pets cannot be.

See the video below, it's certainly heart-wrenching, but you can rest assured this pup is safe and sound!
