Flying anymore can be very expensive especially if you will be checking bags. The airlines now charge for checked bags and that can get very expensive. Imagine being a soldier returning home from Afghanistan with your gear, only to be told you have to pay to check that gear. That is exactly what happened to a group of soldiers returning home on a Delta Airline flight recently. Delta has an agreement in place with the U.S. Armed Forces that allows returning soldiers to bring back all of their gear without cost.
