It seems like lately we are hearing of major retail chains closing their doors in some areas and sometimes even filing for bankruptcy. Bed Bath and Beyond is the latest to announce plans to close many of their stores nationwide. Is the Evansville store on the list?

According to USAToday,

Most of the closings are expected after the holiday shopping season in early 2020, company officials said during a quarterly earnings call Wednesday. The company's fiscal year typically ends in early March.

Robyn D'Elia, chief financial officer and treasurer told USAToday...

We expect to open approximately 15 new stores in fiscal 2019. This will be offset by a minimum of approximately 40 stores we expect to close...This number will grow unless we are able to negotiate more favorable lease terms with our landlords.

It appears that, like the Toys R Us downsizing, the mega retail store will become smaller and more focused. No word yet about the fate of the Evansville Bed Bath and Beyond.
