Why are Some Hoosiers Putting Toilet Paper in Their Fridge?

Toilet paper is making headlines again (kind of). At least this time it isn't about a massive shortage. No, it's a little more odd than that.

Remember back in 2020 when the pandemic hit and you could barely find any toilet paper at the grocery store? The shortage of toilet paper had a lot of people freaked out. Personally, I never understood why TP was so scarce, it isn't like people were using any more of it than usual. Well, we have come a long way from the great toilet paper shortage of 2020. Now, people are doing things with their toilet paper that folks never would have dreamed of doing four years ago.

People are Putting Toilet Paper in Their Fridge

Yep, you read that headline correctly. Hoosiers, as well as many other Americans, are apparently putting rolls of toilet paper in their refrigerators and freezers now.  I mean, can you imagine going to your friend's house and opening up the fridge to get a drink just to see a bunch of toilet paper? The questions and comments you would have for your friend would be quite humorous. You might be wondering why would people do that, right? Is it to give you a cool, fresh sensation when you wipe? No...but that might not be a terrible idea...anyway!

The real reason behind people putting toilet paper in their refrigerators and freezers actually has some ties to the hotel industry, and it's all about keeping things fresh. Toilet paper, especially the higher-end brands, has excellent absorbent abilities, including keeping out odors. This hack is very similar to putting an opened package of baking soda in the fridge or freezer to absorb smells. Toilet paper has the same effect, but does it really work?

Does it Work?

The answer to that question is yes...but only temporarily. According to Yahoo!, you will want to replace the roll about every three weeks. Oh, and make sure it's a roll that is fresh out of the packaging, not a roll that's been near your toilet. That's just gross.

Placing a roll of toilet paper in your fridge or freezer can help control the moisture in there very well. However, while it does a decent job at absorbing the smell, it's still not as good as using an opened box of baking soda. Why? Well, for one, baking soda is a lot smaller than a roll of toilet paper. Two, it's also a lot cheaper than toilet paper too.

So, are you or would you be one of those who places a roll of toilet paper in your fridge? If you do, how well does it work for you? Also, just for my own curiosity, when you're done using it in the fridge, have you tried using the cool toilet paper in the bathroom? For some reason, I feel like that could be a game changer...
