Whirlpool Recalls Over 26,000 Glass Cooktops Sold at Lowe’s, Home Depot, Best Buy, and Others for Possible Fire Hazard
Whirlpool has issued a voluntary recall of Whirlpool, KitchenAid, and JennAir glass cooktops with touch controls because they've received numerous reports from consumers the appliance has turned itself on leading to "heat damage to nearby items and four reports of items catching on fire."
The recall applies to the cooktops listed below sold at "Lowe’s, The Home Depot, Best Buy and other home improvement, home appliance and other stores and online from March 2017 through August 2019 for between $1,150 and $2,500."

To find the model number on your cooktop and compare it to the list above, lift the cooktop and look underneath it. If you're having trouble, Whirlpool has provided instructions along with photos showing where to look on their repair website.
In the event you do have one of the models listed on above, contact Whirlpool at 888-900-7897 between 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time (7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central) Monday through Friday, and refer to recall number 19-189 to schedule a installation of a replacement free of charge.
Whirlpool encourages you to turn the cooktop off at the circuit breaker to prevent it from turning itself on. Also be sure not to leave any flammable materials (kitchen towel, rag, etc.) near the cooktop to be safe.
