New Pattern Planned for East Side Lloyd Expressway
A new traffic pattern will impact the Cross Pointe Boulevard and Burkhardt Road intersections starting on or after Monday, August 17th. Here's what that means for your commute.
If you have driven along the Lloyd Expressway over the past year or two, you have most certainly noticed all of the construction. These projects are all a part of TheLloyd4U initiative. This includes more than a dozen improvement projects along the Lloyd Expressway, including intersection improvements, bridge replacements, pavement replacements, and more.
The changes aim to help traffic flow better along the Lloyd Expressway. As you know, there has been construction on the east side and west side that has been ongoing for a while. A few projects have already been completed on the Lloyd Expressway, including the displaced left-turn intersection at State Road 66 and Epworth Road and at the Stockwell intersection. As the construction continues, so do the lane closures and more. Case in point: a new alert for two of the busiest intersections on the Lloyd Expressway's east side.
Major Changes on the Lloyd Expressway
According to a recent update from TheLloyd4U, there will be a lot happening on the Lloyd Expressway at the Cross Pointe Boulevard and Burkhardt Road intersections. Starting on or after Monday, June 17th, as part of Phase 3, the newly built Displaced Left Turn (DLT) will be used for westbound left turns from the Lloyd Expressway onto southbound Cross Pointe Boulevard or Burkhardt Road. Here's what you need to know beyond that information:
The diagram below will give you a visual of what that means.
That's not all that you need to know, though. TheLloyd4U says that two through lanes in each direction on the Lloyd Expressway will be available during Phase 3, except for one short-term closure. Here are a few other items to note:
- Westbound Lloyd Expressway will be reduced to one lane to complete multiple storm sewer pipe crossings starting at 7 p.m. Friday, August 21. Crews will work 24 hours a day through the weekend until work is completed. Two lanes of traffic will be reopened on or before 6 a.m. Monday, August 24.
- Daily changes will occur between August 17 and August 24.
- Law enforcement will be on site to enforce construction zones and monitor progress.
Now, for some really good news. TheLloyd4U says this new traffic pattern marks the final phase of construction for the east-side projects. All new intersections are on schedule and anticipated to open by the end of this year. So, the struggle is almost over on the east side section of the Lloyd Expressway. The west side construction might be a different story. We still have a little way to go before those orange barrels are completely gone from the Lloyd Expressway with this project.
