Veteran Tribute Week: Meet Liz Ruble From Evansville
Meet Women's Air Force Veteran Liz Ruble
I'm all about lady power, and nothing screams lady power more than a female who served her country. Meet Liz Ruble, originally of Oakland City, Indiana; she and her veteran husband, Tom, now live in Evansville. Oakland City is the reason Liz joined up, after all. She was ready to spread her wings and get out of town. She was ready to find a husband, and it was clear to her, at that time, he wasn't in Oakland City. Liz joined the Women's Air Force (WAF) in 1970 as a Communications Specialist. She had the task of being a typist, a very important position in the military at the time. The better typist you were, the better chance you would be in a safer place than the front lines. If you were quick, you would climb the communications ladder quickly, just like Liz, who had a natural ability to type faster than most. She handled non-classified information for the most part, but was able to see some pretty cool information on occasion. Check out the full interview below to hear some of the cool stories Liz has, as well as some of her service pictures below.
Friendly Reminder That War Is A Team Effort
Liz seems like another veteran who doesn't realize the massive impact they had in the war. If you didn't know, the ironic part is that the majority of people willing to sacrifice for their country don't want any credit for it. Be it the trauma they endured while serving, or the guilt they may carry for surviving, most veterans do not boast about their service and struggle to be thanked for it. Liz was speaking, somewhat lackluster, on some of the cool communications transmissions she was able to be a part of, and I reminded her of how important that was to the war. She handled POW rescue transports and weather reports for the air force in the area, all major contributions to the outcome of her fellow soldiers. Every piece of the puzzle matters, and Liz's sacrifice will stay with her forever. Please take the time to check out the full interview with Liz Ruble below.
