Bigger is not always better, at least according to a new study on marriage, which says a big wedding ring and a big elaborate wedding increases the chances for divorce. WHAT???? Who does these studies anyway? In this case, economic professors at Emory University took a look at 3000 married and formerly married people and determined that dropping serious cash could mean a visit to the judge in divorce court.

Guys, pay attention! If you spent $2000-$4000 on an engagement ring you are 1.3 times more likely to wind up at least separated.Wow, am I in trouble...awesome! If the wedding costs $20,000 or more, the ladies were 3.5 times more likely to get divorced....ouch!

Here's the problem, the average wedding in this country runs about 30-grand and the average cost of an engagement ring is $5500, both of which are well over the amount that means big trouble ahead...more great news.

Couples who spend $1000 or less on their wedding are MUCH more likely to stay together. I don't know about you, but this seems like the biggest load of crap I have heard in a long time. These studies mean nothing if for no other reason, the sample size is miniscule at best.

I don't think the cost has any bearing as much as compatibility does. Just because some couples dropped some serious coin on their nuptials doesn't mean they are headed for splitsville.

If those people didn't make it, I believe there was far more going with them that had little or nothing to do with the amount of money spent. Maybe they just didn't take enough time to see what lurks beneath the surface of each other and believe me, there IS stuff lurking....food for thought.

There is an upside to this study. Remember, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West spent tens of millions of dollars on their wedding...so, if this study holds true, we won't have to watch them together for much longer....always important to find the silver lining, don't you think?
