Why This Truck is Now the Top Choice for Hoosiers
When it comes to truck shopping, there are all kinds of makes and models to choose from, but apparently, this is Indiana's favorite.

I'll preface this by saying I've never been loyal to any particular brand. Over the years, I've driven vehicles produced by General Motors, Chrysler, Ford, and Toyota. Currently, my daily driver is a 2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn. This is the second Ram I've owned, and it's been my personal favorite truck so far. That said, I've driven Fords and Chevys that I've also really enjoyed, so it's very possible one of those could be my next ride. Either way, Hooisers have spoken, and it appears we now know what truck Indiana folks like the best.
The 'Big Three:' Most Popular Trucks in the U.S.
The No. 1 truck in Indiana is, not surprisingly, a member of the "big three," which consists of Ford, Chevrolet, and Ram (Chrysler). According to Hedges & Company, Ford sold the most full-size pickup trucks in 2023, unloading about 748,000 new units. This was up about 21% over 2022. Chevrolet was just behind Ford, with a 4% increase over 2022, selling 553,000 new units. Ram sales actually declined in 2023 by about 22%, with the last of the big three only selling 444,000 full-size pickup trucks that year.
Ford F-Series trucks are not only the most popular trucks nationwide but also the most popular vehicles in general. For the last 40 years, Ford has sold the most units out of all the other auto manufacturers. However, while Ford trucks remain the highest-sold truck in general by volume, they're actually not the top truck choice for Hoosiers.
The Most Popular Truck Sold in Indiana
According to J.D. Power, the most popular truck choice in Indiana is the Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The website notes the Silverado is well-known for its durability and reliability, which is important for those who need a vehicle that can withstand tough conditions over time. Additionally, J.D. Power noted that many Silverados are built at General Motors' Fort Wayne Assembly plant, located in northeastern Indiana. This might contribute to a sense of local pride in the vehicle, in addition to making it more readily available to area buyers.
While I do see a lot of Ford F-150s on Hoosier highways, it's safe to say I definitely see more Silverados, many of which are probably close to 20 years old by now. Even Indy Auto Man agreed that the Chevy Silverado 1500 tends to be the most-bought car in Indiana, despite Ford's national sales record. That said, I still love my Ram, and I'm sure many still like their Fords. (I know you Toyota people are just rolling their eyes at this point.)
