Camping season is upon us, and if you plan on camping out this year, why not go to what was named the best place to camp in the state?

I grew up going camping here in Kentucky. We had everything from a tent to a pop-up camper and a camper. Camping was always something that I enjoyed doing. Between hiking the trails, fishing, swimming, and food over a campfire, spending time at the campground was always a great experience. It's been quite some time since I have been camping, but it's something that my family and I plan on doing this year.

As you know, there are so many great campgrounds all throughout the Bluegrass State. Each of them has its own unique things to offer. I've been fortunate to camp at quite a few of these campgrounds throughout my life. Most of the time, we were always camping around Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. That being said, there are way more campgrounds throughout Kentucky that are worthy of visiting. However, when it comes to the best place to go camping in Kentucky, one website says that there is only one place to go.

The Best Place to Camp in Kentucky

According to the travel website, Travel & Leisure, the best camping in Kentucky can be found at the Daniel Boone National Forest. There is a lot to see and do in the Daniel Boone National Forest. Not to mention plenty of camping options in the area. One of the most notable sights to see is Red River Gorge.

Here's what Travel & Leisure had to say:

Encompassing 700,000 acres spread across 21 counties, choosing where to camp inside the forest named for frontier folk hero Daniel Boone is a challenge. Climbers should head for Red River Gorge's Koomer Ridge Campground, where they'll have access to sandstone cliffs (not to mention hybrid pizzeria and gear shop Miguel's). More into waterfalls? Time your trip to Cumberland Falls Campground around a full moon, when the 125-foot wide sheet of water creates a rare lunar rainbow known as a moonbow.

There are about 20 different campgrounds in the Daniel Boone National Forest. Each offers its own unique amenities. You can learn more about them and plan a trip by clicking here.
