The Most Unusual Restaurant Experience in Kentucky
Located in Brandenburg Kentucky, Jailhouse Pizza's unique restaurant is far from your ordinary pizzeria. Not only do they serve up some delicious pizza, but the location is actually an old jailhouse, hence the name.
Jailhouse Pizza was once the old Meade County Jail. It was built in 1906 and the jail closed in 1976. Apparently, the jail had some pretty "unsavory" inmates throughout the years. It was later transformed into a pizzeria, and you can even dine in some of the old jail cells, which is pretty cool. Another interesting thing about the jail is its history...oh, yeah, and it's said to be haunted! According to Wheree:
This building once housed Meade County’s most notorious figures, including Hank Williams, Sr., and John Hunt Morgan of Morgan’s Raiders. Even the infamous Jesse and Frank James frequented the Old Meade County Hotel just down the street in the 1800s. However, the history of this place is only part of its allure. Ghostly encounters have cemented JailHouse Pizza’s reputation as a paranormal hotspot. Among the former inmates, a certain “Bigsby” is rumored to still roam the premises. Eerie sightings and unexplained phenomena add to the mystique, making this restaurant a captivating ghostly destination.
That's quite the history. It makes sense why Love Food chose this as the most unusual dining experience in Kentucky. This is what the website said about the restaurant:
If you've ever wondered what a meal in prison would be like, head to Jailhouse Pizza for dinner behind the bars of the old Meade County Jail. The jail was built in 1906 and has seen its fair share of crooks and villains throughout the years. Black and white photos of the old days adorn the walls, and the building is said to be haunted by some of its former inmates – but don't let that put you off! Customers say the pizzas are quick, delicious, and always hot.
