The Most Dangerous City in Indiana Isn’t What You Would Expect
There's a recent study of the most dangerous places in Indiana, and I'd be willing to bet that you won't guess what it is.
When you think of Indiana overall, you don't really associate it with crime. Sure, criminal acts happen all of the time, but that's not typically the stereotype that goes with Indiana. I mean Indiana isn't even one of the top ten most dangerous states in the country. No matter what state you live in, there are always certain places that you want to avoid due to how dangerous some of the neighborhoods are, and Indiana is no exception. Last year, we reported the 10 most dangerous cities in the state for 2023, and I was baffled at how my hometown of Boonville somehow made that list. I've lived there practically my whole life, and "dangerous" isn't even close to a word that I would use to describe the small town.
Area Vibes recently found the most dangerous cities in Indiana. The methodology behind this new danger ranking in Indiana is interesting, and I think it's one of the fairer ways to decide if a place is really dangerous. They counted how many crimes happen every day and the chance that you'll be a victim.
The Most Dangerous City in Indiana
In this ranking, Area Vibes found the ten most dangerous cities in Indiana. Some of these aren't too much of a surprise such as Indianapolis at number two, Evansville at number three, and even Terre Haute at number six. However, what is surprising is that the city landed number one on this list. Elkhardt was named the most dangerous city in Indiana.
According to the report, in Elkhardt, 2.92 crimes happen every single day and you have a 1 in 94 chance of being a victim of a violent crime. By comparison, in Indianapolis, 2.82 crimes happen each day and you have a 1 in 97 chance of being a victim.
In any event, I wouldn't let these findings deter you from visiting some of these places. These cities have so much to offer folks in the area. Although, I would be cautious about entering some areas if they seem a little "off". There are still some pretty cool places to shop, visit, eat, and drink in all of these towns.
