Southern Indiana Delivery Drivers Hard at Work Amid Winter Storm
As families remain shut in across the tri-state during the aftermath of Winter Storm Blair, requests for food deliveries have seen an uptick across the board.

Getting a hot meal isn't always easy when you can't get out of your driveway, or the power goes out to your home during a major winter storm. That's where Grubhub, UberEats, and other apps come in handy. I know some great folks who work for a Domino's in Southern Indiana, who were out and about on Monday, January 6, 2025, delivering pizzas in less-than-ideal road conditions. Despite the challenges, these workers went above and beyond to help get food to folks in the community.
Delivering Pizza in a Snowstorm
Growing up between the Pike and Daviess County line, I know firsthand just what it's like to drive on those roads in the colder months. However, I'll admit, I never had to deliver anything in such conditions. I reached out to some friends who work for a Domino's Pizza restaurant in the southern part of the state to see what their experiences have been like over the last 48 hours. It's safe to say, they've been staying busy.
"When our customers can't get out, especially during a winter mix of snow and ice like what we experienced this weekend, they rely on us here at Domino's to provide an invaluable service by bringing food to them and their families," said Stuart Grubbs, General Manager of Domino's Pizza in Washington, Indiana. "We definitely see a significant increase in requests for delivery during these occasions."
Delivery Driver Safety During Winter Conditions
During our conversation, Grubbs mentioned that there are certainly some challenges associated with delivering pies in winter weather. When road conditions are at their worst, drivers run the risk of being stranded in the elements, and some may not be able to report for their shifts at all. For those who can make it in, the company uses an app to monitor their driving habits, offering rewards to those who demonstrate safe driving practices.
"We place a high priority on the safety of our drivers and understand that sometimes leaving their own property could create a hazardous situation for them. We have an amazing crew who knows how to hustle on a daily basis and put it into overdrive in times like these," Grubbs said.
Customer Stories from Winter Storm Blair
Domino's tries to get food to its customers in 20 minutes or less, but when roads are icy, that doesn't always happen. Grubbs noted that despite slight delays, customers have been very appreciative over the last few days, offering compliments and messages of warm thanks.
"It's a great motivator seeing how appreciative our customers are when they find out we are open and will deliver. One guy yesterday called us 'legends!' The majority of our customers are totally understanding of the extra time it takes," he said.
Whether you see a pizza delivery driver, someone from UberEats, Grubhub, or even FedEx or UPS, I encourage you to send them on their way with a huge thank you, and perhaps even a good tip if you can swing it. After all, there's no better way to kick off the new year than by spreading a little bit of kindness at a time when folks need it most.
