When it comes to Christmas, the Gaylord Opryland Resort does it up big. The only other place that might do it bigger would be the North Pole. From the lights and decorations, to the holiday-themed shows and activities, it's certainly worth the two hour drive to Nashville from the Tri-State to see it for yourself. And if you do go, definitely make plans to check out ICE! inside the Gaylord Opryland Events Center.

ICE! has been a staple of the resort's Country Christmas celebration for several years and features two MILLION pounds of ice hand sculpted by 40 artists flown in from Harbin, China tailored around a specific holiday theme. This year's theme is based on the Christmas classic, How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss.

I had the opportunity to walk through the exhibit during my recent live broadcast from the Gaylord, and was amazed by the detail in each piece. Take a look for yourself in the photos below and remember everything you are looking at (minus the floor and the walls) is made entirely from frozen water.

Here are few other fun facts about ICE!:

  • Each guest is given a large insulated parka to wear as the rooms where the displays sit is kept at nine degrees fahrenheit.
  • The exhibit also features four - two story ice slides you can actually (and are encouraged to) slide on.
  • The color added to certain pieces is nothing more than standard food coloring.
