September is National Preparedness Month, an annual campaign to raise awareness about preparing for emergencies and disasters. I’m a strong advocate of always having an emergency bag on hand for your family in case something horrific were to happen. Everyone’s "go bag" might look a bit different, but Ready.gov recommends having a basic disaster supplies kit consisting of items like water, food, a weather radio, a flashlight, a first aid kit, and any other essentials you might need in an emergency.

While looking for additional supplies to add to my own bag, I came across a survival kit I didn’t even know existed. It’s something you can carry around with you daily, but it might not be something you want to keep in plain sight. Is it useful? I have no idea, but it does sound funny. Witty Yeti is a website that specializes in funny gag gifts for your friends and family. One of the items they sell is their Shart Survival Kit. According to Merriam-Webster, a "shart" is a vulgar term defined as "an accidental expulsion of feces along with an expulsion of intestinal gas." Gross. The kit is primarily meant as a joke, but it does feature real items that could be useful in the event of a certain emergency. Here’s what Witty Yeti says about the product:

I recently found the kit listed online on Amazon, sporting a price tag of about $26.99. The box measures 4 x 5 x 1 inches and contains five different items, as pictured above. However, Witty Yeti did note that the wipes are not flushable. So, there’s that.
